The thesis and dissertation defenses will follow the PPG/2020 regulations, provided that the credits, the qualification, and all the requirements of the regulations have been met. Once the PPG-GBM formalities have been fulfilled, the student must deliver the copies to the Examining Board in sufficient time for evaluation. The Examining Board must be indicated by the advisor and approved by the Program’s Coordinating Commission.
After the approval of the names that will constitute the Examining Board, the defense must take place within a maximum term of 60 (sixty) days. The defense will take place through a verbal exposition of the dissertation or thesis in a minimum of 40 (forty) minutes and a maximum of 60 (sixty) minutes, either in person or remotely (while there are restrictions due to the Covid pandemic).
The dissertation or thesis defense will be public, and the examining board will argue the candidate after the presentation, each examiner has 30 (thirty) minutes, the advisor being the last to argue. The result of the dissertation defense judgment held immediately after the examination and in a secret session will be explicited by the examiners with the equivalent grade: Approved or Not Approved by the majority of the Board members.
The approved candidate will have 30 (thirty) days to send the requested changes. In case of failure, the candidate for the title of Master or Doctor will have a period of 6 (six) months to be reevaluated, preferably by the same board.
