The Graduate Program in Experimental Pathology was created based on solid scientific training, enabling students to teach within the scientific knowledge of Aggression and Defense mechanisms, mainly comprised in the disciplines of General Pathology and Immunology.

For the full training of our newcomers, the scientific profile and pedagogical proposal of the program are based on the development of dissertations and theses based on projects related to human health and aimed at understanding the mechanisms of diseases from the etiological agent, throughout its pathogenesis, as well as its outcome, whether spontaneous or through drug driven. With the use of models for experimental diseases, such as in vitro, ex vivo, in vivo, or human models, it is intended to seek the state of the art in scientific research with quality and innovation.

In 2021, Graduate Program in Experimental Pathology celebrate its 20th years as a Program of excellence by CAPES (concept 6), having already graduated more than 200 masters and 80 doctors.

The quality of our researchers is a reflection of the quality of our work published nationally and internationally. In the 2013-2016 quadrennium, the production of articles in qualified journals was 406 (average of 20 articles per professor), with 80% of these having graduate students in the authorship of the works. This production came from a 27 doctorates and 55 masters completed in the same period.

Graduate Program in Experimental Pathology has always worked in collaboration with other Brazilian institutions, and international collaborations have confirmed the commitment it has with the internationalization of the program, which has strongly contributed to raising the CAPES concept.

The main internationalization actions carried out by the Program involve visiting research abroad, by professors and students, participation in international scientific events and receiving undergraduate and graduate students and professors-researchers from abroad.

It is also worth noting that the Program has been organizing the International Symposium on Experimental Pathology, with its fourth edition concluded in 2021 (http://www.uel.br/eventos/simposiopato).

The program’s wide range of research lines on human diseases, as well as equipped research laboratories and the multi-user laboratory, support innovative projects, from basic to clinical research, portraying modern translational research in priority areas nationally and internationally.
