Area of Concentration A – Language and Signification:
This area focuses on a set of reflections and analyses that contribute to language studies, including its constituents and structures, text, and media resources. The hallmark of this concentration area is its position in the theoretical field of phonetics/phonology, morphosyntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, textual linguistics, among other fields of study. It has two research lines:
- Research Line 1 – Linguistic Description and Analysis: Conceptualization, description, and analysis of linguistic levels. Synchronic and diachronic variation..
- Research Line 2 – Text/Discourse Studies: Study of processes of textual construction and interactive-discursive aspects of language..
Area of Concentration B – Language and Education::
This area aims to reflect on theoretical facts and their applicability in language teaching/learning. It establishes the relationship between language, education, and knowledge production. The hallmark of this concentration area is the applied field of studies and the accessibility of theoretical precepts produced in academia, i.e., reflection on knowledge production and transmission. It has two research lines:
- Research Line 3 – Teaching/Learning and Training of Portuguese Language and Other Language Teachers: Studies directed at teaching/learning situations of Portuguese and syncretic languages, aiming to establish relations between theoretical aspects and teaching practice.
- Research Line 4 – Teaching/Learning and Training of Foreign Language Teachers: Studies focused on teaching/learning situations and teacher training in foreign languages, aiming to establish relations between theoretical aspects and teaching practice.
