Overview

The Graduate Program in Sociology at the State University of Londrina (PGSOC/UEL), with over 20 years of experience, is a consolidated Grade 4 (2017-2020) stricto sensu program that offers master’s and PhD degrees in Sociology. The PPGSOC/UEL plays an important role in the Brazilian National Graduate System since it is the only PhD program in Paraná outside the capital, Curitiba. The program is responsible for advanced studies and research on numerous topics in Sociology. They are structured upon two Research Themes: “State, Governance, and Democracy” and “Inequality, Citizenship, and Culture”.

Goals
  • Promote theoretical, methodological, and practical training of sociologists who will be able to work on teaching, research, consultancy, and on the development of public policies and projects in governmental, non-governmental or private organisations;
  • Produce and disseminate sociological knowledge with high scientific and social impact, contributing to the understanding of Brazilian society and to problem-solving processes at the local, regional, and national levels;
Mission

The PPGSOC/UEL aims to produce knowledge of high social and scientific impact in the field of Sociology, as well as train master’s and PhD students to work on teaching, research, consultancy, and the development of public policies and projects in accordance with the requirements of the National Graduate System.  

History
  • 1999 – Accreditation (CAPES) of the Graduate Program in Social Sciences.
  • 2000 – First class of the master’s degree in Social Sciences.
  • 2013 – Evaluated as Grade 4 (CAPES).
  • 2017 – Name changes to Graduate Program in Sociology.
  • 2018 – Accreditation (CAPES) of the PhD Program in Sociology (CAPES Grade 4).
  • 2019 – First class of the PhD Program in Sociology.
