Fisioecologia de animais aquáticos. Objetivos: Estudar as alterações fisiológicas em animais aquáticos associadas às variações naturais do ambiente bem como à presença de contaminantes.
Biomarcadores de contaminação em organismos aquáticos. Objetivos: Caracterizar biomarcadores genéticos, bioquímicos, celulares, fisiológicos e histológicos em organismos aquáticos expostos a diferentes classes de contaminantes no laboratório, submetidos a testes in situ ou coletados no campo.
Mecanismos bioquímicos da toxicidade. Objetivos: Caracterizar as vias bioquímicas envolvidas no metabolismo de xenobióticos, as defesas antioxidantes e as lesões oxidativas em organismos aquáticos expostos a diferentes tipos de poluentes.

Desenvolvimento de estudos que envolvem análises fisiológicas, bioquímicas, moleculares, genéticas e celulares, utilizando-se diferentes modelos biológicos, in vivo e in vitro, para a compreensão do funcionamento dos organismos, inseridos em seu ambiente natural, ou expostos, no campo ou em laboratório, a diferentes classes de contaminantes.
Research description: Development of studies involving physiological, biochemical, molecular, genetic, and cellular analyses, using various biological models, both in vivo and in vitro, to understand the functioning of organisms within their natural environment or exposed, in the field or in the laboratory, to different classes of contaminants.
