The history of the Group on Applied Nuclear Physics (GFNA) at UEL, which began in 1977, is intertwined with that of the Department of Physics itself, and, in particular, with the history of the implementation and development of research activities at UEL. In addition to structuring the Group, the laboratory, and the scientific production, the GFNA contributes to the training of researchers from scientific initiation to postdoctoral studies. Since the group develops applied research, most projects are multidisciplinary. Projects are developed in the areas of Archaeometry, Environment, Food, Forensics, Agronomy, Dentistry, Materials Science, and so on. There is a network of collaboration with chemists, biologists, archaeologists, restorers, police officers, agronomists, civil and food engineers, dentists, and others. Additionally, all GFNA professors are members of – and one of them is part of the Management Committee – of the INCT-FNA (National Institute of Science and Technology – Nuclear Physics and Applications). Among the current collaborations in the area of Archaeometry, we highlight nationally the activities conducted with the Paranaense Museum (MUPA) since 1997, with USP’s Museum of Archeology and Ethnology (MAE) since 2003, with The Brazilian Center for Research in Physics (CBPF) since 2006, and with São Paulo’s Museum of Art (MASP) since 2008, among other Brazilian museums; at an international level, collaborations with Dr. Roberto Cesareo, senior professor at the Università di Sassari, and Dr. Maria Filomena Guerra (CNRS France).
