The Graduate Program in Microbiology (PPM) aims to form qualified human resources, capable of contributing to the development of scientific and technological research in the country, through innovative projects in the area of Microbiology.

CAPES rank : 5 (Quadrennial Evaluation 2017-2020)

Coordinating Committee:

Coordinator: Prof. Lucy Megumi Yamauchi Lioni

Vice-coordinator: Prof. Sérgio Paulo Dejato da Rocha

Member: Prof. Sueli. Fumie Yamada Ogatta

Member: Prof. Phileno Pinge Filho

Student: Luana Carvalho Silva

The PPM focuses on training professionals with the ability to study the biology, physiology and genetics of microorganisms, as well as the ability to evaluate the molecular mechanisms related to the microorganism-host relationship. In addition, trained professionals are able to develop research in the field of technological innovation, focusing on the development of products and/or processes applied to human, animal and plant health. The faculty is multidisciplinary, composed of qualified researchers in different areas of microbiology who work in the development of innovative scientific research.

The PPM offers high quality Master and PhD programs for students interested in Microbiology. Supported by funding from federal and Paraná state agencies, foundations and private companies, the researchers carry out reputable research that addresses important health, economic and other needs of society. The basic and applied research fields involve Biology and Physiology of Microorganisms, Genetic and Molecular Biology of Microorganisms and Microorganism-Host Interaction, covering the disciplines of immunology, microbial ecology, microbial genetics, microbial physiology, microbial pathogenesis, and microbial molecular biology. The PPM benefits substantially from its interdisciplinary interactions and collaborations with other departments of UEL and other Brazilian and foreign teaching and research institutions. Our students can also take courses in other post-graduate programs of UEL, creating opportunities to meet new researchers with different perspectives.

PPM Research Area:

Egress profile

The egress from PPM is a professional with technical, humanistic, reflective and critical training in Microbiology, qualified to work in different sub-areas (Virology, Bacteriology, Mycology and Protozoology), with the aim of producing and disseminating knowledge.

PPM contributes to the training of regional human resources, and from different states of Brazil and countries in Latin America.
