Researchers in the area of Condensed Matter Physics cover a broad range of topics, with emphasis in the study of the properties of new materials and their application in a variety of devices. There is a predominance of experimental activity in the area, but the properties of molecular structures are also explored through computer simulations, as well as the rheological and thermodynamic aspects of liquid crystals. The researchers have access to equipment and techniques in the research laboratories and computing facilities, both those located in the Physics department itself, and in the multi-user laboratories managed by the School of Research and Graduate Studies of the University (PROPPG). The area is also involved in collaborative projects with other departments of the university, such as the Departments of Chemistry, Biology and Biochemistry and Biotechnology, in addition to the participation of researchers in state and national networks, such as the Hub de Nanotecnologia do Paraná and the National Institute on Organic Electronics (INEO).
